A recent AP survey stated that many women feel their pets are better listeners than their husbands. I wasn’t surprised to hear that. Though the report didn’t give reasons why…I’m sure I know why.
Men are hardwired to try to fix problems/issues that their wives/girlfriends discuss. But, for us women, we usually share simply because we need to vent and process things, not because we want anything fixed or solved. It’s how we deal with problems…to talk it through.
I’ve heard it from women for years. They want their husbands to simply listen. Not solve anything, just listen and be supportive. That is hard for men. But, our pets are great at it. It comes naturally for them.
It’s certainly true with my Westie, Archie. Not only is he a great listener, but he often actually tilts his head as if he’s really engaged in my tale, and paying close attention. And, at that moment, that’s exactly what I need.
